Freeman Logistics offers a full variety of options for your shipping needs. Read below to learn about some of the services we provide. Keep in mind, there will always be different choices, and keep in mind that transit times can vary depending on the services that you use, so always make sure to ask.
LTL shipments usually consist of 6 standard size pallets or less. There are some instances where a carrier will accept more than that, but every carrier has it’s own set of rules. So it is very important to have someone like us to help verify what is the best option. You don’t want to run into issues where you exceed the carrier limits as those mistakes can be very costly.
We also have guaranteed LTL options as well in case your shipment is time sensitive and must arrive by a certain date. Be aware of a standard guaranteed option, and what that entails, as every carrier has different rules. There are also different types of guaranteed offerings, and different policies that go with each.
Also, the biggest misconception with LTL are transit times. Whenever a carrier tells you their posted transit days, you need to understand that it basically means that is the quickest amount of time that you will receive your shipment. A lot of people think that is when they will receive your shipment, which is not correct. Keep in mind, you do not count the day it picks up, nor do you count weekends/holidays. We always try and double the transit days for customers so they have realistic expectations. For example, if it is posted as a 5 day transit we will sell it as 5-10 days. An 8 day transit would be 8-16 days. A next day transit, we would say 1-3 days. Also, keep in mind for LTL, it can take them a day or two to actually complete the pick up. So we always try and make it clear of what your expectations should be, and to make sure that everyone is on the same page.
Standard 53′ dry van trailer. This is the most common type of truckload that is used.
Flatbed trailers – consists of 48’s, 53’s, step decks, low boys, conestogas, etc. There is a long list of the different types, but we have access to all.
Refrigerated trailers, also know as reefers. These are temperature controlled to make sure your goods move at the proper temperature to avoid any damage to your goods.
Intermodal or Rail shipment usually move in 53′ containers and are transported by train. This is always a great option if transit time is not an issue as it is can be more cost effective on certain lanes. Sometimes over the road can be cheaper, you just need to have us check to see what capacity looks like. Keep in mind, rail shipments might take 2-3 times as long as an over the road move and there is a great chance for delay. But if the freight is not time sensitive, then it is a great way to keep your cost down. They usually cannot accommodate same day pick ups so don’t expect it. Feel free to reach out for comparisons.
Ocean shipments will move on a ship and can move as LTL or Full loads or anywhere in between. Again, this is a great option if transit time is not an issue. This pertains to most international moves, but here in the USA, this is an option to Alaska, Hawaii, and any other island, as air freight can be very pricy, ocean is a decent option just expect much longer transit times. Similar to moving a rail shipment versus over the road, it can easily be 2-3 times the transit compared to more expedited options.
Air shipments will move via airplane and this is usually very expensive and a worst case option for a lot of people. Most of our customers needs can be handled by truck, but for those few instances air might be the only option left, and sometimes time is of the essence, and no extra time to risk it. The good news is, we usually can offer you multiple options to compare and give you a good idea of what to expect.
